Shire to host major local government conference

Council will host the Australian Local Government Women's Association (ALGWA) 2019 Victorian annual conference at Mount Macedon in October.

Councillors and senior Council staff from throughout Victoria will visit the shire for the three-day conference from 18-20 October.

The conference will be held at the Victorian Emergency Management Institute in Mount Macedon, however associated events will occur in locations throughout the shire over the three days.

Speakers at this year's conference include Ro Allen, Commissioner for Gender and Sexuality in the Equality Branch of the Department of Premier and Cabinet, and Leah Van Poppel, the Chief Executive Officer of Women with Disabilities Victoria.

"We are so pleased to be hosting this major conference in our shire," said Mayor, Cr Janet Pearce.

"This conference looks to strengthen the opportunities that encourage and support women in local government.

"It's a fantastic opportunity for delegates to network with like-minded women from all avenues of local government and exchange ideas, debate and engage in cross-council collaboration on issues affecting women in local government."

ALGWA (Vic.) was established in 1952 and aims to encourage women to participate in local government, make a career in local government, and to protect the interests and rights of women in local government.
