Shoes, phone stolen in street robbery - Surry Hills

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was allegedly robbed of his shoes in Surry Hills yesterday.

About 6pm yesterday (Monday 22 July 2018), a 40-year-old man was at Prince Alfred Park on Cleveland Street when two men allegedly offered him drugs in exchange for his shoes.

The man declined and was threatened by one of the men with a syringe.

He kicked off the shoes which were picked up by one of the men before running toward Chalmers Street.

The other man allegedly snatched the victim's mobile phone, which also contained cash and identification cards before fleeing.

The man reported the incident to police who commenced an investigation.

Detectives would like to speak to two men who they believe may be able to assist with inquiries.

The first man is described as being of African appearance, aged about 30 years, with a large athletic build, about 185cm tall, very short black hair and wearing a bright yellow puffy jacket, blue jeans, a black bumbag and black runners.

The second man is described as being of African appearance, about 17 years old, skinny build, between 170cm and 175cm tall, very short black hair, wearing a sky blue jacket, grey tracksuit pants and was barefoot before allegedly stealing the runners, described as white/orange/blue Nike Air 270s.
