Shooting Investigation Underway at Silver Valley

Police have taken a 68-year-old man into custody following an incident in Silver Valley last night, May 13.

Around 9:30pm, the 44-year-old Silver Valley man attended a Shady Creek Road address and became involved in an altercation with a 68-year-old man known to him.

During the altercation the 44-year-old man sustained gunshot wounds to his abdomen and calf.

The injured man drove home before calling police and was transported to Mareeba Hospital, and then was airlifted to Cairns Hospital.

He is in a serious but stable condition.

Following protracted negotiations with police, the 68-year-old man was taken into custody at a Shady Creek Road property at around 11.45am today.

Investigations are continuing.
