Shots fired, man arrested in Leeton

A man has been arrested after shots were fired in the Riverina town of Leeton this morning, NSW Police say.

Police received multiple calls to Triple Zero (000) about 12.20am today (Monday 26 February 2018), by residents reporting shots being fired in Gossamer Street.

Officers from Leeton attended the scene and saw a man standing beside a vehicle.

When police approached him, they allege a 12-gauge shotgun was seen in the vehicle.

The man was arrested and the gun seized; it was loaded with five live rounds.

He was taken to Leeton Police Station where a breath analysis returned a reading of 0.141.

A crime scene was established in Gossamer Street and six empty shell cartridges were found and taken for forensic examination.

A canvass of the neighbourhood has been conducted by detectives with statements to be obtained.

The 26-year-old man, from Leeton, remains at Leeton Police Station.
