Shots fired, man arrested in Leura

A man remains in police custody after shots were fired into a business in Leura this morning, NSW Police say.

Police from Blue Mountains Local Area Command were patrolling Leura about 1.40am today, when they were told shots had been fired into a shop.

A short time later, a 34-year-old man was arrested near the scene; a loaded handgun was found nearby.

The shop was closed and there was no one inside the business at the time; there have been no reports of injury.

A crime scene was established and during a canvass of the area, police came across a station wagon – believed to have been used by the man – in the car park of a hotel on the Great Western Highway.

During a search of the vehicle a rifle, ammunition and a number of items were seized. All have been taken for forensic examination.

The man remains in custody at Katoomba Police Station and inquiries are continuing.
