SIA Seeks PIDA Prescribed Person Status

UK Gov

SIA Chief Executive Michelle Russell's statement on the Statutory Instrument giving the SIA prescribed person status under the Public Interest Disclosure Act.

We welcome the Statutory Instrument laid in Parliament today that, subject to final parliamentary scrutiny, will grant the SIA the status of a prescribed person under the Public Interest Disclosure Act 1998 from 2 June 2026. This change responds to the gap that we have asked to be closed; it will support those who speak up about wrongdoing in the private security industry, giving them greater legal protection when they raise genuine concerns with us.

If approved, prescribed person status will give workers in the private security industry whistleblowing status and the legal protection that comes with it when making a disclosure to the SIA about unlawful activity in the security industry.

We will publish more information and detailed guidance on what this change means when the Instrument is commenced.
