Significant Drug Seizurein Hobart Airport

On Monday the 27th of March 2023, Tasmania Police and Australian Federal Police were conducting drug screening of arriving passengers at Hobart International Airport.

At approx. 8pm a 32-year-old Claremont man, who had recently arrived on a flight from Sydney, was indicated by a drug detector dog to be in possession of a controlled drug. A subsequent search of the man's luggage located 2 kilograms of cocaine and 3.5 kilograms of methylamphetamine.

The man was arrested and conveyed to the Hobart Police Station where he was interviewed, charged with Trafficking in a Controlled Substance and detained to attend court on the 28th of March 2023.

The drugs have an estimated street value of $5.5 million
