Silver ring found during forensic excavation as investigations continue into disappearance of Roxlyn Bowie

Detectives investigating the suspicious disappearance of Roxlyn Bowie have released images of items, including a silver ring, found during a forensic search in the state's north west last month.

Roxlyn Bowie, aged 31 at the time, was reported missing after she was last seen at her Walgett home about 6pm on Saturday 5 June 1982.

She left behind her husband and two children, who were aged six and almost two at the time.

Local police commenced an investigation into her disappearance before the case was assigned to the Homicide Squad.

A coronial inquest in September 2014 found Mrs Bowie had died but the cause of death was undetermined. Her body has not been located.

The State Crime Command's Robbery and Serious Crime Squad has led a renewed investigation into her disappearance and suspected murder under Strike Force Maluka.

As part of ongoing inquiries, detectives and specialist forensic investigators commenced a thorough forensic examination, including luminol testing, at a home and a parcel of land in Walgett from Tuesday 19 March 2019 to Friday 22 March 2019.

During the excavation in a paddock near the home, Strike Force Maluka investigators found a silver ring with the letter 'R' and other items which will undergo further forensic testing.

Robbery and Serious Crime Squad Commander, Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty, is urging anyone with information about the items to come forward.

"The support from the community in our pursuit to locate Roxlyn Bowie and piece together her last movements has been very beneficial," Det Supt Doherty said.

"We're hoping this assistance can continue as we are keen to speak with anyone who has more information about these items.

"In particular, Strike Force Maluka investigators want to hear from those who may have more information about the silver ring with the letter 'R' on it. Your information will be treated in strict confidence.

"Our detectives will continue to follow all lines of inquiry until we can provide some answers for Roxlyn's loved ones."

Det Supt Doherty reminded the community that a $1 million NSW Government reward remains on offer for information leading to the location of the body of Roxlyn Bowie or for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for her murder.

Investigations under Strike Force Maluka are continuing, and forensic examinations of items seized are continuing to determine their relevance to the investigation.

Anyone with information that may assist Strike Force Maluka investigators is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence.
