The highly anticipated redevelopment of Launceston's Silverdome has reached a crucial step with the release of the main works tender.
Minister for Sport, Nick Duigan, said the $12 million investment will improve the arena's facilities for both elite and community-level sports.
"In addition to delivering enhanced accessibility, these upgrades will help the venue attract more live entertainment and concerts," Minister Duigan said.
"The upgrades will also significantly improve patron experience and increase business and conference event opportunities at the venue.
"This investment supports local jobs and provides an opportunity to boost capacity and skills in the building and construction sector and is a perfect example of us delivering for Tasmania.
"I'm looking forward to seeing more sport, more concerts, more events, more people and more economic benefits for Northern Tasmania."
The upgrades include: new retractable seating which will increase capacity, increased disability access seating, new elite home and away changerooms that will also be accessible to community users.
New replay screens are included, along with increased food and beverage outlets, a new sports floor system catering for a range of events to be staged at the venue, and a new function facility enabling the venue to host public and private functions on event days and non-event days.
"The facility will help more Tasmanians participate in sport and physical activity, which we know pays dividends in improvements to physical and mental health," Minister Duigan said.
Stadiums Tasmania CEO, James Avery said this investment will meet the needs of both elite and community sports.
"We recognise there is a need for both ongoing community use of the Silverdome facility given the high demand for courts in the Launceston area as well as a need to upgrade the facility to meet NBL standards," Mr Avery said.
"Our focus remains striking a balance between those needs and ensuring the Silverdome can attract a wider set of events for many years to come."
Tender submissions for the redevelopment of the Silverdome close on Friday, 12 December 2025.
