A new trial will enable residents to recycle single-use take-away cups so that the hard-to-recycle items can be reprocessed into other goods.
Residents can deposit their used cups and lids in dedicated public place coffee cup bins near the Council entrance in Mosman Square and at Balmoral and Mosman Bay during the three-month trial which will finish in June.
Through the Council partnership with Simply Cups and the NSW Environment Protection Authority, liquids, lids and cups are sorted as they are placed into the bin, with liquid and lids being eventually discarded into general waste streams, while the cups are collected and sent off for reprocessing into new products, including reusable cups and recycled road surfacing.
