Six in custody after series of searches in Launceston

Six people are in custody following a series of searches in the Kings Meadows/St Leonards area this morning in relation to two separate firearms incidents overnight.

These six include a 27 year old Rocherlea man and a 34 St Leonards man who are in custody in relation to this morning's shooting of a 44 year old man in Kings Meadows home earlier this morning. The 44-year-old man was taken to the Launceston General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The remaining four are in custody following the searches in relation to unrelated matters.

Police are also investigating a report of a shot being fired at a residence in South Launceston about 6.30pm last night. No one was injured in that incident.

Investigations indicate that there is no ongoing risk to members of the community and police believe the two incidents are not related but both were targeted.

"Police would like to thank members of the public who have assisted us so far in identifying people of interest," Detective Inspector Craig Fox said.

Anyone with information about either incident is asked to contact Launceston CIB on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers anonymously on 1800 333 000 or crimestopperstas.com.au.
