Skull fractured in road-rage fight in Auburn

A man suffered a fractured skull after being hit with a hammer in an alleged road-rage assault at Auburn yesterday.

Emergency services were called to Ettalong Road, Auburn, about 3:40pm (Thursday 31 January 2019), and found a 65-year-old man with serious head injuries lying in the street next to his Holden utility.

Officers from Auburn Police Area Command were told two men became involved in a fight following a road-rage incident before the man, from Guildford, was allegedly struck with a hammer.

He was treated at the scene and taken to Westmead Hospital where he was treated for a fractured skull. He has since left hospital.

Acting on information provided by witnesses, police arrested a 25-year-old man in a Volkswagon Golf parked nearby. Officers found a hammer inside the vehicle and seized it for forensic examination.

The man, also from Guildford, was taken to Auburn Police Station where he was charged with cause grievous bodily harm to person with intent.

He has been refused bail to appear in Burwood Local Court today (Friday 1 February 2019).
