Small Business Expo Unites Motivated Kempsey Entrepreneurs

Kempsey Shire Council

Small businesses across Kempsey Shire came together for the Small Business Expo to learn, share ideas, and gain some insights on how to maximise impact for their businesses in trying times.

The expo was a successful event with a positive vibe, great attendance, and useful information from trade stalls enticing great feedback from many business attendees.

Marketing expert Jane Hillsdon from Dragonfly Marketing shared her knowledge on how to gain maximum marketing impact on a small budget. The two biggest learnings that resonated with the crowd were:

  • The importance of remaining consistent with your efforts. A regular drumbeat of marketing is an effective way of keeping your business in sight and front of mind. Reducing your marketing spend is fine as long as whatever marketing activities you do engage in are hyper-relevant to your audience.
  • Know your customer. Now more than ever is the time to deepen your obsession with your target audience. Be pragmatic with your spending and focused on what is relevant, but don't assume you know who your audience is - be emphatically sure because guessing is both a waste of time and money.

With the challenges facing all business owners right now, the event was a great reminder to not pester your customers but to be creative and thoughtful in your marketing delivery, to continue to be relevant and finally to communicate this consistently.

Kempsey Shire Council would like to thank Jane Hillsdon for her time engaging with the Shire's small business community and her generosity in giving away free copies of her book, 'How to do Marketing' to attendees.

Feedback from people that attended was positive, including: 'Awesome event this morning so well done to you guys!! Best one I've attended in a long time." Another small business owner commented, "it was a very informative and enjoyable event."
