Andrews oversees ridiculous regulatory delays for Victoria's vital construction materials
Companies operating in the construction materials sector are crucial to our State's success. Without them, we cannot build the roads and infrastructure we need to keep Victoria moving forward.
However, data obtained from the Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions shows that under Daniel Andrews and Labor, this sector is being unjustly hampered by burdensome regulations and senseless regulatory delays.
Between July 2014 and July 2020, the Victorian Government issued just 71 permits for companies operating in the State's crucial construction materials sector.
The average processing time was an absurd 589 days.
Every single company desperate to provide the materials needed to build our roads and bridges has had to wade through over eighteen months of red tape and delays.
This kind of inefficiency is an unacceptable disgrace.
On top of this, Daniel Andrews' new regulations of the sector will, on his own Government's figures, add an extra 30 per cent in compliance costs.
Given these delays and regulatory costs, the Treasurer even admitted last year construction material shortages were "weighing" on the Government's infrastructure plans, such as they are.
We need a system that is efficient and effective, not mindlessly bureaucratic.
As stated by Shadow Minister for Resources, Ryan Smith:
"The answer to 589-days of delays in granting permit approvals by Labor is not more regulation, it should be increased efficiency.
"Daniel Andrews' failed regulation of our resources sector is holding back construction and growth in Victoria."
