Snappy Christmas arrest in Heidelberg Heights

Two residents enjoying a Christmas day stroll had quite the shock when they discovered a crocodile in the front yard of a Heidelberg Heights address, Victoria Police say.

Feeling highly sceptical and possibly expecting a large lizard, police were surprised to see the 1 metre long reptile sitting quietly on the footpath of the Waiora Road address shortly after 8.30pm.

Knowing this was a job for the experts, a reptile catch was notified and successfully captured the saltwater crocodile.

The critter will remain with the carer until the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning can collect it.

It’s not known where the croc came from or how it came to be the front yard of the closed business.

That’s what you call taking a bite out of crime - literally.

Anyone missing a crocodile or with information on the owner of the crocodile is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
