South Australia rolls up to continue vaccine rollout

COVID-19 vaccinations are set to reach more South Australians as the Marshall Liberal Government vaccine rollout continues to gather momentum across the state.

Minister for Health and Wellbeing, Stephen Wade, said a range of clinics are being planned across South Australia in April to boost the rollout to healthcare and emergency workers and to complement the community clinics.

"We are continuing to make strong progress on the rollout and are proud of how many South Australians have rolled up their sleeves for the COVID-19 vaccine, with almost 25,000 doses of the vaccine having been administered by SA Health," said Minister Wade.

"Vaccinating South Australians is a key part of the Marshall Liberal Government's plan to keep our state safe and strong.

"The viability of clinics is heavily dependent on the flow of vaccine supplies from the Commonwealth and the Commonwealth's success in developing their GP and pharmacist vaccination networks.

"To complement the Commonwealth program, South Australia is planning to open a vaccination hub at the Adelaide Showgrounds in the next month, which will provide the capacity to vaccinate a further 3,000 healthcare staff and police, fire and emergency workers each week.

"We will review the use of this hub in two months, once we have vaccinated the emergency services personnel and been able to see the impact of primary health care clinics, in particular GPs and respiratory clinics.

"In April we will also be establishing community clinics at Port Lincoln and Mount Gambier, and we will send a vaccination team to Kangaroo Island.

"We are working hard to ensure that the vaccination program reaches every South Australian."

At this stage the SA Health community clinics are targeted at communities at risk of not being able to be vaccinated, especially in country areas.

"We are working with the Commonwealth Government on the rollout and are pleased that we can step in to bolster efforts to ensure that the vaccine reaches more community members in the regions where this further support is required," said Minister Wade.

"We will continue to be nimble, assessing the need and investigating how we can keep supporting the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine across the state to ensure that every South Australian has access to the vaccine."

Further details on the additional clinics are in the process of being confirmed and information will be provided to the community once finalised.

The COVID-19 vaccine rollout across South Australia will be undertaken in line with the Commonwealth Government's Vaccine Roadmap.
