Spate of suspicious fires in Torquay

Torquay Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating a spate of suspicious fires in the Torquay area since October last year.

There has been a total of ten reported fires since 23 October, including both scrub and structure fires, which investigators believe may be connected.

The ten fires have all been lit within an approximate 4km radius from the first fire, which was a structure fire on Grandview Road.

It is believed on at least two occasions a man was seen using a flammable liquid to ignite fires in Grandview Road and Central Avenue.

Investigators are concerned that the consequences could be catastrophic if these fires continue.

Investigators have released CCTV footage of the fire in Central Avenue on 16 December and have re-released footage from the fire in Grandview Road.

This footage depicts a man who investigators believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.

Anyone who recognises this man, witnessed the fires or with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
