At its meeting on 19 November 2025, Council resolved to not proceed with the proposed Special Charge Scheme for The Esplanade (Sunderland Bay Road to Zephyr Court) in Sunderland Bay in its current form.
This is due to a change to a within the scheme area which affects the number of benefiting properties and the distribution of the special charge.
The legislation for imposing a special charge is very strict and this change means that the process is no longer compliant and will need to be re-started. Council will now re-assess the costings and begin the formal process again.
This Special Charge Scheme was initiated by property owners in this stretch of road through a petition to Council. All affected property owners will be formally notified of Council's decision, and we thank them for their patience and understanding.
