Special delivery boost for senior Territorians

NT Government

Senior Territorians are benefitting from the Territory Labor Government’s Seniors Recognition Scheme, with the distribution of this year’s pre-paid bank cards almost complete.

More than 15,000 cards pre-loaded with $500 have been posted to recognise the significant contribution elder Territorians make to our community.

Retirees Jan and Peter Jarvis, who celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary recently, will now be able to take a long overdue visit to reunite with family in Adelaide, using the cards to pay for their airfares.

A record number of eligible people are this year accessing the scheme representing 80 per cent of seniors in the Northern Territory, or more than 15,000 people.

There’s also a broader range of businesses accepting the card, providing more flexibility for seniors to choose how they can benefit.

As well as providing invaluable financial support for older Territorians, the scheme is injecting more than $7.2 million into the Northern Territory’s economy.
