Speeder to appear in court in Darwin

A 40-year-old man will appear in court after he was found driving more than double the speed limit.

At around 9:45pm on Friday 17 April 2020, police were dispatched to a report of a traffic offence at Wishart Road, Berrimah.

Upon arrival, police observed a vehicle accelerate to 162 km/h in an 80 km/h speed zone. Police conducted a traffic apprehension on the vehicle and spoke to the 40-year-old man.

He was issued with a notice to appear in Darwin Local Court on 9 July 2020.

Commander Matt Hollamby said the actions of this man is extremely disappointing.

"There is just no need for this behaviour on the roads. We are fortunate that the man did not cause a crash that resulted in injury or loss of life. Unfortunately for the man, he will now be facing potential fines and loss of license."
