Speeding motorists caught in Adelaide Hills, SA

Police from the Road Policing South Tactical Unit conducted covert speed detection duties on Mount Barker Road (the old freeway) at Leawood Gardens today as part of Operation Safe Hills, targeting speeding motorists and dangerous driving behaviours, according to SA Police.

Between 9am and 1.30pm on Saturday 16 December, seven drivers and six motorcycle riders were detected exceeding the 60 km/h signed speed limit.

Of those caught, two drivers were holders of a provisional licence and were detected travelling at 101km/h and 102km/h.

A 17-year-old teenage boy from Pasadena and a 24-year-old man from Mount Barker were both issued with a $1369 on the spot fine and seven demerit points.

Another two motorcycle riders who held learners permits, a 47-year-old man from Tusmore and a 22-year-old man from Parafield Gardens, were detected traveling at 80km/h and 81km/h and were issued $1223 on the spot fines and five demerit points.

Police remain alarmed by the behaviour of some drivers and riders who continue to disregard the law with little or no regard for their safety or the safety of other road users.

Also of concern is that all the driver's detected today, were within 200 metres of the scene of a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred on the 10 June.
