Spirits Saga Worsens, $400M Over Budget

Tas Labor

If Tasmanians thought the biggest infrastructure stuff-up in Tasmania's history couldn't get any worse, they'd be sorely mistaken.

Minister for Transport Eric Abetz has today confessed that the plagued Berth 3 development in Devonport has blown out to a cost of $493 million

The project was first budgeted at $90 million. It then blew out to $375 million because the Liberals forgot to build it - a staggering display of incompetence which saw the business community declare it would be difficult to trust this Rockliff Minority Government ever again.

If the project was completed like the Liberals said it would be, Tasmania's finances would be $400 million better off.

To make matters worse, Minister Abetz said the Government was paying bonuses out to executives because they had "fast-tracked" the project.

Jeremy Rockliff's chaotic and incompetent minority Government can't manage money, and Tasmanians are paying the price.
