Sport and recreation opportunities open for women and girls

Ballarat women and girls passionate about sport and active recreation now have the opportunity to become leading members of the City of Ballarat's Active Women and Girls Ambassadorship Program.

Women and girls are encouraged to apply, particularly if they are motivated to help their peers excel in sport and recreation activities.

The Ambassadors' role will be to inspire, motivate and support other Ballarat Active Women and Girls to get physically active.

The role also will allow Ambassadors to step up to a leadership role in their sport club or active group, empower equitable participation and champion positive role modelling.

As a Ballarat Active Women and Girls Ambassador, participants will contribute to and participate in social media and marketing activities and be encouraged to participate in the Ballarat Active Women's Leadership Network.

Ambassador responsibilities also will include:

• Becoming an active member of the Ballarat Active Women's Leadership Planning Group to support the organisation of the Network's online page and sessions with initial support from City of Ballarat and Sports Central

• Registering your sport club or active group as a Ballarat Active Women and Girls partner and supporter at the Active Ballarat subscribe link.

• Supporting the work of the City of Ballarat in fostering partnerships with other local sport and health care providers, sport and recreation groups, clubs and associations through public Active women and girls' events.

"The Council is so pleased to host the Active Women and Girls Ambassadorship Program, which is one of our leading sporting and recreation initiatives," Mayor, Cr Ben Taylor, said.

'We look forward to the easing of the COVID-19 pandemic when sporting events can return. There is nothing that can match sporting activities with your friends and peers and this Ambassador program will provide great social opportunities as well."
