Sporting clubs resuming outdoor training

The following comments are attributed to Greater Geelong Mayor Stephanie Asher:

What obligations do clubs need to meet before training can start?

We are helping clubs to resume outdoor training through a Return to Play process, which is in line with guidelines issued by their relevant state sporting associations. As a landowner, the Council has a responsibility to ensure that public facilities are used safely and that all members and visitors adhere to current guidelines. Safety is always our priority. The process will address how they can most effectively resume training, modified where necessary, to meet the Victorian Government's restrictions.

When is Council hoping to give approval for clubs to start training?

We understand that clubs are keen to resume training and we are assisting them to do so safely and as quickly as possible. It will ultimately depend on the individual clubs as to how long this takes, given there are differing considerations across sports in terms of social distancing and physical contact with equipment.

What documentation/communication has been issued to clubs about a restart?

Clubs have been contacted this week about the Return to Play process.
