St Albans drink driver

A St Albans man has a lot of explaining to do after crashing his car while allegedly under the influence in St Albans this afternoon.

Police alleged the 40-year-old had just driven from a property in McKechnie Street about 3.50pm when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree.

Officers arrived and the man started to walk from the scene, leaving a 6-year-old boy in the rear of the car and all alone.

He was stopped by police, the boy's mother was called and attended while the driver was taken to Sunshine Police Station for an evidentiary breath test.

He returned an alleged reading of .233%.

His licence was immediately suspended and the man is expected to face a string of driving offences as well as conduct endangering life.
