Following the decision by St Vincent's Care Services to close its independent living units in Eltham, Council will be providing support wherever possible to affected residents.

Council has been advised that over the next 10 months and by the end of 2023, St Vincent's Care Services will gradually decommission its independent living units in Diamond Street while supporting tenants to find alternative, suitable and long-term accommodation. Once vacated, the buildings will be demolished to ensure safety and security.

St Vincent's Care Services' residential aged care facility, which is separate to the independent living units, is not affected by this decision and will continue operating as normal.

Council has had no involvement in this decision made by St Vincent's Care Services and is not a provider of residential care or social housing.

Our officers will continue to meet with St Vincent's Care Services staff to advocate for residents and we will provide support wherever possible to any of the residents who may be eligible for appropriate Council services during this transition period.

Council has been assured that St Vincent's Care Services is committed to doing its best for affected residents and no tenant will be left without finding suitable, long-term housing.
