Nearly 17,000 PSA health members - including allied health staff, mental and public health nurses, home support workers, policy, knowledge, advisory, and specialist workers - are striking for safe staffing, fair pay, and conditions to give quality care patients deserve.
Though we work in different parts of the health system, our collective bargaining faces similar challenges, caused by the Coalition Government's austerity approach:
- Health NZ's offers don't address chronic understaffing issues that stop us providing the level of care patients deserve. Unsafe staffing means unsafe workplaces.
- Services are suffering from ridiculous recruitment delays. As a result, health workers are pulling double shifts and working unsustainably long hours. Both patients and workers are at risk.
- The pay offers are effectively pay cuts during a cost-of-living crisis. We risk losing more health workers to Australia.
Overworked and undervalued health workers cannot keep delivering the care patients need or deserve. Communities deserve timely care, at safely staffed services, in excellent clinics.
That's why health workers are standing up for healthcare that looks after everyone.
