Tasmanian Government
Madeleine Ogilvie, Minister for Community and Multicultural Affairs
Applications close this week for the Tasmanian Government's Ministerial Multicultural Advisory Council.
Minister for Community and Multicultural Affairs, Madeleine Ogilvie, said the new advisory council will allow the State's multicultural communities and organisations to provide advice and insights about issues affecting culturally and linguistically diverse Tasmanians.
"Our multicultural and multifaith communities are an intrinsic part of the Tasmania we all love," Minister Ogilvie said.
"The soon to be established Tasmanian Ministerial Multicultural Advisory Council (Council) will have broad representation.
"Importantly, now more than ever, I am keen to foster community leadership to combat anti-semitism, and all forms of racism.
"I encourage all those interested to apply. The Council will play a role in ensuring our State remains harmonious and inclusive.
"We are looking for five individual community members and two organisation representatives."
The development of the Council is an action under the five-year Multicultural action Plan: Embracing Diversity and Fostering Belonging, launched last year.
The Tasmanian Government will also be opening a second round of the Social Cohesion Grants Program in early February, to encourage organisations and local councils to develop projects to address racism and foster social cohesion across communities.
