A year ago, a friend of Magnus Stjernborg Koch's mother received an email that looked like it was sent from Brobizz-a Danish all-in-one toll payment solution. The email said that her Brobizz was cancelled because her payment information was not updated. She quickly clicked on a link, entered her credit card details, and confirmed using her MitID password. It later turned out that the website was fake and she had been robbed of DKK 18,000.
Magnus Stjernborg Koch was so upset by the scam that he decided to create an anti-digital fraud tool with his co-founder, Natasha Hougaard. Originally, the tool was used by their family and friends. Today, the tool, which they have named Skjoldet (the Shield), protects 13,000 users from online scam sites.
200,000 scammed annually
We live in a digitalized world where digital fraud is a risk. Spotting fraud can be difficult, especially when shopping online or receiving digital messages by email or text in our busy lives.
"According to the Danish Crime Prevention Council, almost 200,000 Danes are scammed every year, and we want to stop that," says Magnus Stjernborg Koch.
"Our mission is to make the internet safer and more secure for everyone," adds Natasha Hougaard.
Skjoldet offers proactive protection by analysing websites in real time and alerting users if a website is fraudulent. This happens within seconds, so users get a warning before they are potentially scammed.
Over the past six months, Skjoldet has issued 25,000 warnings to users about fake websites and webshops.
