State Flying Squad Targets North Brisbane Crime

The State Flying Squad (SFS) has charged 31 people with 176 offences during their most recent deployment to the North Brisbane District, between 28 July and 5 August.

SFS supported local Property Crime Units in executing several search warrants and seized various weapons, drugs including ammunition, gun powder, knives, a slingshot, methylamphetamine, cannabis, drug utensils, and large amounts of cash.

A search warrant was executed at a Hodgson Street address in Zillmere on 31 July and officers allegedly located methylamphetamine, a knife, restricted items including a billy club and laser, large quantities of cash and phones believed to be used in the commission of crime.

A 44-year-old Chermside woman was charged with one count each of possessing things and supplying dangerous drugs.

A 51-year-old woman was charged with one count each of unlawful possession of category M weapons and possessing restricted items.

A 43-year-old man was charged with one count each of supplying dangerous drugs and possessing things.

They are all expected to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on 28 August.

Officers executed at a Farnell Street address in Chermside on 4 August and allegedly located methylamphetamine, cannabis, a variety of drug utensils, scales, clip-seal bags and uncapped syringes.

A 41-year-old Chermside woman was charged with two counts each of possess dangerous drugs and possess utensils, and one count each of possess anything used and failure to dispose of a needle and syringe.

She is expected to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on 15 August.

State Flying Squad officers arrested a 27-year-old Ningi man on July 29 and charged him with one count of unlawful possession of a motor vehicle after he allegedly stole a VW Golf from Hamilton in Brisbane, before it was found damaged and abandoned in Tanawha. He was also charged with one count each of stealing and contravention of a domestic violence order.

He appeared in Caboolture Magistrates Court on 30 July.

Detective Inspector Joe Nixon of the SFS said the deployment demonstrated the power of the squad to boost police capability when it's needed most.

"The quantity and variety of offences that came out of our most recent North Brisbane deployment show the ability of the State Flying Squad to engage and coordinate with local resources to provide investigative surge capacity," Detective Inspector Nixon said.

"Whether it's getting weapons or drugs off the street, or engaging with victims and the wider community, we're dedicated to detecting, preventing and deterring crime throughout Queensland and assisting in making our communities feel safer."
