State Leadership Program Opens Nominations

Minister for Housing and Public Works and Minister for Youth The Honourable Sam O'Connor
  • Nominations now open for 2026 Queensland Youth Parliament.
  • Passionate Queenslanders aged 16-25 invited to apply until 22 February for this unique opportunity.
  • 93 young people will represent their communities in Parliament House and work to develop and debate their ideas.

The Crisafulli Government is encouraging the state's young leaders across Queensland to put their hand up for the 31st Queensland Youth Parliament (QYP).

The six-month program provides a platform for Queenslanders aged 16-25 to amplify their voices on issues they are passionate about.

Each year, 93 young people from across Queensland are selected to represent each of the Parliament's electorates and be part of the democratic process.

The program empowers young Queenslanders to build leadership skills, contribute to meaningful policy discussions and create connections.

Minister for Youth Sam O'Connor said QYP was playing a vital role in developing young leaders from all backgrounds.

"The Crisafulli Government is ensuring the voices of young Queenslanders are part of the conversation and that's what Queensland Youth Parliament is all about," Minister O'Connor said.

"We received a record 471 nominations last year, which shows the passion of our next generation to have their say on the issues that matter to them.

"I can't wait to see a new cohort of young people take the opportunity to advocate for meaningful change within the parliamentary chamber and engage directly with key decision makers."

Queensland Youth Parliament Coordinator Grace Campbell encouraged young people to nominate for this year's program.

"This is a unique opportunity for young people right across the state to represent their communities and experience how parliament operates firsthand, including presenting and debating their Youth Bills in Queensland's Parliament House," Ms Campbell said.

Former Youth Parliament Member Charlotte Squire encouraged any young person who has identified a specific issue within their community to apply for QYP.

"Queensland Youth Parliament provides the tools, skills, and support to help address issues that matter to youth and their communities, Ms Squire said.

"QYP empowered me to explore how the housing crisis can be resolved within Queensland and to help address the concerns of many young people by providing a platform to share and build youth bills that positively impact our communities"

Applications are available online for both desktop and mobile devices, and as a printable form. QYP offers direct support to young people who may need assistance in completing their applications.

Nominations will close on 22 February 2026.
