Sorell residents will soon enjoy brand new, state-of-the-art sport and recreation facilities thanks to a $7.8 million investment by the Federal Liberal and Nationals Government.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said the Government is investing $6 million to help construct the facility.
"The funding will go towards the construction of basketball courts, a gym, an office space, storage facilities, a canteen, a car park and landscaping works," Mr McCormack said.
The Nationals’ Senator for Tasmania Steve Martin has worked hard to secure this important funding.
"Sorell is one of the fastest growing regions in Tasmania and it’s so important that the community has access to solid sporting infrastructure to encourage children to keep active and look after their health," Senator Martin said.
Liberal Senator for Tasmania Jonathon Duniam said the new facility will help residents to increase levels of physical activity.
"Sport plays an important role in shaping the future of our younger generation by providing lessons in teamwork, rewards for input and valuable leadership opportunities," Senator Duniam said.
"This facility is something the community wants, needs and most importantly, deserves."
