Education Minister Grace Grace has confirmed that all state schools in Townsville and surrounding areas will remain closed tomorrow (Monday, 4 February) due to significant flooding.
Ms Grace said the decision to close all state schools in the flood zone had been made in the interests of the safety and welfare of staff, students and school communities.
"As the weather event moves further south, the department will also monitor developing conditions in the areas from Bowen to Proserpine," Ms Grace said.
"I strongly urge parents to continue checking the Department’s School Closures website for the most up-to-date information about the status of schools in affected areas over the coming days as the situation is subject to change.
"The safety of all of our staff, our students and their families will always be our highest priority."

There is currently a widespread Flood Watch for significant parts of north Queensland due to the effects of the current weather system.
Parents should check local weather conditions and road access, and place their safety — and that of their children — above all else. It is important to remember that If it’s Flooded – Forget it!
Independent and Catholic schools
Parents with children at independent and Catholic schools should check with individual schools about local arrangements. They should continue to check the school closures website for updates at http://closures.det.qld.gov.au/
Early Childhood Education Centres
Parents are encouraged to make direct contact with their Early Childhood Education Centre/Provider for advice on whether it will be closed.
