Statement by IMF African Department Director on Chad's debt restructuring progress

Washington, DC: Mr. Abebe Aemro Selassie, Director of the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) African Department, has today issued the following statement on Chad:

"IMF staff understands that Chad has recently received a communication from the main private sector creditor that signals its commitment to good faith discussions with the Chadian authorities on the requested debt renegotiation. This follows the financing assurances received from Chad's official creditors in the Common Framework in theirstatement on June 16.

"Fund staff continue to work closely with the Chadian authorities to bring anew ECF arrangementto the IMF Executive Board for its consideration as soon as possible."
