Statement from acting Attorney-General Stirling Hinchliffe

I welcome the Court of Appeal’s decision to increase the sentence for Cole Miller’s killer.

Armstrong Renata’s sentence has been increased from seven years to nine years and six months, and he must serve 80 per cent of his sentence before being released.

The Attorney-General appealed Renata’s original sentence for unlawful striking causing death on the grounds it was manifestly inadequate.

Cole’s life was tragically cut short and I know his death was felt by Queenslanders everywhere.

I am pleased the Court recognised Cole’s killer deserved a tougher sentence to reflect his cowardly and vicious act.
