Comments made by Leader of the Opposition that identify a particular individual who is currently the subject of an appeal before the courts in relation to proposed sex offender legislation are grossly irresponsible.
To link such legislation to an individual renders any proposed laws vulnerable to legal challenge.
The government will have more to say on measures to increase community safety through greater monitoring of convicted sex offenders tomorrow.
