Statement from Commissioner Ian Stewart regarding his contract

Today I received advice from the Queensland Government that I would be appointed to serve another three-year term as Commissioner of the Queensland Police Service from November 1 this year, Queensland Police say.

I am extremely honoured and humbled by the confidence shown in me and I know this is because of the efforts, skills and commitment of the almost 15,000 members of the QPS.

Stability in leadership and direction helps us manage our complex and evolving policing environment – particularly as we plan for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

I look forward to being able to continue pursuing those strategies that underpin this organisation’s continual improvement, pioneering cutting edge initiatives and technology and ensuring we are delivering world-class frontline policing services for the people of Queensland.

I am very proud to serve as Police Commissioner and will continue to work hard, along with each and every other officer and staff member of the QPS, to ensure the safety and security of all Queenslanders.
