Statement from Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships, Jackie Trad

The Queensland Government welcomes the road map outlined by federal Minister for Indigenous Australians, Ken Wyatt, yesterday.

Mr Wyatt has outlined a positive agenda to help close the gap for Indigenous Australians and I look forward to working constructively with him to create genuine and tangible outcomes for our communities.

As a nation, we still have a long way to go and addressing intergenerational disadvantage is an incredibly complex task that requires commitment at all levels of Government to tackle.

I fully support Mr Wyatt's consultative approach and his commitment to co-designing any model for constitutional change.

Giving indigenous Australians a voice and ensuring genuine collaboration is a vital part of the way forward. Without this we will never achieve true and meaningful reconciliation.
