Statement on National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan's Call with Dr. Hiski Haukkala of Finland

National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan spoke today with Dr. Hiski Haukkala, Secretary General and Chief of Cabinet in the Office of the President of the Republic of Finland. They discussed joint efforts to strengthen the U.S.-Finland relationship, including cooperation on shared challenges such as global health, the climate crisis, and security in northern Europe. Mr. Sullivan thanked Finland for its close partnership with the U.S. military during evacuation operations last month in Kabul, including support for U.S. citizens, Afghan allies, and other vulnerable Afghans. Mr. Sullivan and Dr. Haukkala discussed the importance of close cooperation on Arctic issues. They also exchanged views on respective efforts to forge more constructive relations with Russia where possible, while remaining vigilant against any destabilizing actions.
