Statement on recent police assaults

Any attack on our police is totally unacceptable.

The men and women of the Northern Territory Police force put themselves on the line every day to protect Territorians.

Cowardly attacks of this nature must be condemned in the strongest possible terms. Thats why the Territory has significantly harsher penalties in place for assaults on police.

The maximum penalty for assaults on police starts at 5 years imprisonment. These penalties may increase to 16 years imprisonment if a police officer is subject to serious harm.

This Government stands with the Northern Territory Police Association in expressing our disgust at any attack on the hard-working men and women of the Northern Territory Police Force.
