Statement on VicTrack removal of BMX jumps from its land

While BMX riding is undoubtedly a popular activity in our Shire, Council also has a responsibility to protect the safety of riders, as well as the broader community.

Unauthorised structures such as these can cause significant community safety issues.

Council officers therefore passed on community concerns to VicTrack regarding safety issues around the bike jumps and shelters constructed on its land.

Council is currently working on a new Recreation and Leisure Strategy, which seeks to support sport and recreational activities - including BMX – in our community. This work involves ongoing consultation with BMX enthusiasts.

The Strategy is an action in the recently adopted four-year Nillumbik Shire Council Plan.

We aim to continue working with our local BMX enthusiasts to identify ways we can best deliver high quality facilities while ensuring the safety of riders and the broader community.
