Statistics show Tasmanian firms still winning most work

Michael Ferguson,Minister for Finance

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is committed to supporting local businesses to create jobs and stimulate the economy to deliver growth, which is why we introduced the Buy Local Policy in 2014.

The latest September quarter statistics unequivocally show that our Buy Local Policy is working, with 87.2 per cent of the total contracts awarded for the quarter going to Tasmanian businesses.

More impressively, 95.9 per cent of the total value of all contracts was awarded to Tasmanian businesses in the September quarter, worth a total of $90.7 million.

Statistics for contracts valued at $50,000 or more based on open procurement processes, including Requests for Tender, Request for Proposal and Expressions of Interest have been published on the Government's purchasing website.

Our Buy Local Policy was enhanced last year to increase support for Tasmanian businesses and the community more broadly as part of its response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is committed to supporting Tasmanian businesses to thrive, hire more staff and invest in our local economy and our plan is working.
