Stay fire safe this winter

Mark Shelton,Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management

The Government is reminding Tasmanians to keep themselves safe from the threat of fire this winter with an online campaign providing tips on how to protect themselves and their homes.

We know that there is an increase in the number of house fires across Tasmania during winter, and unfortunately this year has been no exception.

The Tasmania Fire Service has developed an online campaign providing useful tips such as ensuring smoke alarms are installed in every room, correct use of wheat bags and appliances, and keeping anything flammable two metres from the heater.

These measures can significantly reduce the risk of accidental fires in your house, and I would encourage all Tasmanians to heed the advice of the Tasmania Fire Service and visit their Facebook page to see the videos https://www.facebook.com/TasmaniaFireService/

I would also like to thank all the Tasmanian career and volunteer firefighters who work tirelessly to keep Tasmanians safe all year round.
