Stay safe on riverbank

Swan Hill Rural City Council is urging residents and visitors to remain vigilant along the Murray River.

Director Infrastructure, Svetla Petkova said riverbank erosion was currently being experienced, in some areas.

"Due to the rivers current fast-flow and high water levels, riverbank erosion is created. It also generates a further risk of riverbanks collapsing.

"Riverbank erosion involves the wearing away of the soil, found along the river bed and banks," Ms Petkova said.

Council is urging the community to take additional care when in the vicinity of the river.

"Please observe all warning signs and fencing put in place for public safety.

"And, of course be mindful when walking along our beautiful river – especially, when you have little ones in tow," Ms Petkova said.
