Stealing in Alice Springs

Northern Territory Police are investigating a stealing offence in Alice Springs yesterday.

Around 3pm the woman was using an ATM in a shopping centre on Hartley Street when it is alleged a young female stole a sum of cash from her before running away.

Acting Superintendent Peter Dash said police had not received a report in relation to the theft but were making inquiries into the incident.

"We are yet to receive a report in regards to this incident, however we have viewed CCTV footage and consider the actions of the offender appalling and are making inquiries to identify those involved", said A/Supt Dash

"This was a low act conducted on a vulnerable person in broad daylight. The alleged offender was very brazen and had no regard of the effects of her behaviour. Police, however, require victims to make official complaints in order for us to conduct an investigation and hold offenders accountable for their actions."

Police urge anyone with information in relation to this incident to contact them on 131 444 or report it anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 and reference PROMIS number 9242361.
