Bomaderry and Berry Stations will be taken back in time this weekend when 108-year-old heritage steam locomotive 3526 arrives for steam train rides.
Visitors will have the opportunity to experience history onboard beautifully restored heritage carriages from the 1930s and 40s as they enjoy a return day trip from Berry Station on Friday 15 August, or a 50-minute steam train ride from Bomaderry Station towards Berry and Return over the weekend.
"We're delighted to be returning to the Shoalhaven this weekend with our popular steam train rides." said Transport Heritage NSW CEO Andrew Moritz.
"Transport Heritage NSW is able to bring the steam era back to life along the picturesque South Coast Line thanks to the keen support of communities across the state like the Shoalhaven, along with the help of the NSW Government and Transport for NSW."
Customers have the option of sitting in a compartment, designed for up to six people, or to sit in 'open saloon' style seating. Each carriage has been restored by staff and volunteers at Transport Heritage NSW's workshop, based at the NSW Rail Museum in the Wollondilly region.
The South Coast Line opened to Bomaderry in 1893, more than a decade after initial works began in 1882. From 1933, it was serviced daily from Sydney by the South Coast Daylight Express, which became one of the state's premier services. The line continued to use steam trains until 1961, when they were replaced by diesel railcars.
The Shoalhaven Steam Weekend will run on 15, 16 and 17 August.
