Stolen ID used in attempted fraud

Boroondara Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating after stolen identification was used to try and purchase a mobile phone and TV in Chadstone in November, Victoria Police say.

Several ID cards were stolen from a vehicle on Riversdale Road in Surrey Hills on 2 September.

A man and woman then allegedly attempted to use the cards to purchase the electrical goods on credit from a department store on Warrigal Road on 11 November.

A staff member has become suspicious of the pair’s behaviour, denying their application and they’ve left empty-handed.

Police have released images of a man they believe may be able to assist in their investigation.

The man is perceived to be of Southern European appearance and aged in his 40s, with a black full beard and moustache.

He was wearing a high visibility, orange and blue top, with light-coloured pants and a red baseball cap.

Investigators have charged a 46-year-old Surrey Hills woman with handle stolen goods and attempt to obtain property by deception.

She will appear in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 23 March 2017.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
