Stolen station wagon found at Port Adelaide, South Australia

Two people were arrested after police recovered a stolen vehicle at Port Adelaide this morning.

The victim had left the keys in the ignition of her Toyota Camry station wagon while she ducked into a store on Hanson Road, Mansfield Park just before 10am on Saturday 2 February. She exited the store to see her car being driven away.

Police searched the area and quickly located the vehicle parked in Gouger Crescent, Port Adelaide about 10.30am. Patrols, with the assistance of Western District CIB detectives, attended a nearby address, where they found the suspect hiding under a bed, allegedly with the car keys in his possession.

An 18-year-old Mansfield Park man was arrested and charged with illegal use, hinder police and breach of bail. He was refused police bail and will appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday.

A 17-year-old female at the address was also arrested and charged with hinder police and will appear in the Port Adelaide Youth Court on 21 March.

Police conducted a further search of a Mansfield Park address where it will be alleged that commercial cleaning equipment stolen from the vehicle was located.

Western Adelaide Police were pleased to recover the vehicle and all the property within such a quick time frame, as well as arrest the suspect, but remind the public to be vigilant with their vehicle security. Always lock your car securely even if you'll only be away from it for a short time.
