Stolen vehicle crash at Townsville

Four teenagers have been charged following a traffic crash in Townsville overnight involving a stolen vehicle.

Police were called to the intersection of Boundary Street and Railway Avenue in Railway Estate shortly before 9pm to attend a crash between a Nissan Qashqai and Hyundai Tucson.

Initial investigations indicate the stolen Nissan was travelling eastbound along Boundary Street when it allegedly travelled through a red light before being struck by the Hyundai, flipping and coming to rest in the intersection on its roof.

It will be alleged the driver of the stolen Nissan, a 17-year-old Wulguru boy, fled the scene on foot and remains outstanding.

The four passengers of the stolen Nissan, a 16-year-old girl, two 15-year-old girls and a 16-year-old boy, were arrested at the scene before being taken to Townsville University Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The occupants of the Hyundai did not require medical treatment.

All four occupants of the stolen vehicle have since been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and refused police bail to appear in the Townsville Magistrates Court this month.

The Nissan Qashqai was stolen from a Corcoran Street residence at Currajong on Thursday night.

Investigations continue.
