Stonnington pledges zero tolerance to child abuse

The City of Stonnington is committed to providing welcoming, safe and accessible environments where children feel valued, listened to and considered in decisions that affect their lives.

In recognition of National Child Protection Week 4-10 September 2022, we have pledged our commitment to child safety on the National Association for Prevention of Child abuse and Neglect (NAPCAN) website.

National Child Protection Week is all about the ways that we can all work together to build communities that support children and families.

The need to remove or reduce the risk of child abuse informs our decision-making concerning children in our care and in our community.

We are taking measures to increase the awareness and understanding of the Victorian Child Safe Standards, National Principles and their role in the City of Stonnington.

The City of Stonnington acknowledges that child safety is an organisation-wide responsibility, and we support this by the following actions:

  • Release of a new Child Safety Commitment Statement
  • Appointment of a Child Safety Officer
  • Appointment of an Aboriginal Liaison Officer
  • Monthly internal newsletters on child safety for all staff
  • New Child Safety training for all staff and compliance monitored closely
  • Executive team trained on the Child Safe Standards
  • Skills for Stronger Families webinar series is part of our commitment to educating families and empowering children
  • Upcoming webinar on online safety for kids – Think U Know program
  • Acknowledgment of awareness weeks: National Child Protection Week and Children's Week.
